Happy Hallowe'en

It's a very wet and windy day here which won't be good for the little trick or treaters tonight.  I put up my two decorations and will add the outside pumpkin lights later if we get a break in the rain.  We don't decorate like we used to when the kids were younger but still enjoy giving out candy.

This is a quilted wallhanging that I did several years ago.  And my little stuffed black cat which remains up high or my dog will claim it as her own.  She has a whole box of stuffed animals but always likes a new one!

More Fall

The lilac tree is just starting to turn.  Another 6 months until I can enjoy its sweet fragrance again.

We cleaned up the yard and put away all the patio furniture and flower pots. Everything seems so bare now. So long summer!

More Fall Leaves

It's nice that the leaves don't change and fall all at once and the gorgeous colour gets spread out over several weeks. Fall is probably my most favourite season.....except for the fact that winter is close behind it!

Mum Show

This past weekend I went to the annual Mum Show in a neighbouring city with a few friends.  It was a train theme this year.  The flowers were beautiful and it was great to spend time with good friends.

Memories

While doing errands the other day I found myself downtown and took a drive by this house.  My Grandparents were the original owners and lived there for nearly 50 years before my grandfather passed away and my grandmother moved to a condo shortly after.  My grandfather was handy and added the front and back dormers and the front and side porch over the years that they lived there.  Lots of great memories made here.  I have one of the original small windows that my grandfather made into a mirror by replacing the glass with mirrors.  It hasn't changed much on the outside over the years, just the paint colour and the landscaping.

Last Rose of Summer

Since there are no more buds on the rose bushes and the weather is getting much colder this will probably be my last rose of the season.  I took better care of the roses this summer and they rewarded me with lots of blooms.   It is always nice to bring in a rose for the table.  Our roses are along the side of our house so our neighbour always tells me how much he enjoys the blossoms from his kitchen window.

Enjoying Fall

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day so we went for a walk along the lake.  The leaves are really changing now and there is lots of colour everywhere.

Red Sunflowers

I had never seen red dyed sunflowers before I found these in the grocery store this morning.

Riding the Rails

Part of our tour included a 9 hour train ride from Denali to Whittier and we were blessed that day with nothing but sunshine.  We also got to see, from a distance, Mt. McKinley, which is the highest mountain in North America.

Early morning departure

Glaciers

One of the highlights of our cruise was seeing the glaciers from the boat.  The size and beauty of them was breathtaking.

Mountains

While in Alaska and BC we just couldn't get enough of the mountains.  They are so beaufitul.  This was the view from behind our hotel in Denali.
